Welcome to Children's Speech and Language Therapy. Our mission is to improve the life chances of children in Warwickshire by working with families and professionals to improve skills and breakdown barriers to communication. Our service aims to support children with difficulties communicating. These children may have difficulty: Understanding. More than 10% of all children and young people (1.4 million in the UK) have long-term speech, language and communication needs [i]. Studies have shown that low vocabulary skills at school entry are associated with adult literacy at 34 years and also mental health and employability [ii] with the subsequent impact on the NHS Children's Speech and Language Therapy. We work with children and young people up to the age of 19 who have speech, language or communication needs. As a team we regularly provide placement opportunities for student speech and language therapists from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. On occasion we've arranged placements in partnership with other universities, for example when a student lives in the North Tees area
